Jets Pre-Week 1 Briefing
After firing Rex Ryan, the Jets hired coach Sam Crew to take on the massive rebuilding task that is the New York J-E-T-S. Although coach Crew's only previous experience was yelling at Alex Smith from his couch, the Jets front office really felt that he was the man to be the face of the franchise and turn the ship around. Coach Crew joins a franchise that holds one of the least talented rosters in the NFL.
Coach Crew will start talented yet immature rookie QB Geno Smith from Day 1, knowing that Geno gives this offense the best chance to put points on the board with his athleticism and deep throw ability. Luckily, Geno has 2 talented Wide Receivers on the outsides to help him develop. Veteran Santonio Holmes will provide consistency in the short-mid range passing game, while 2nd year wide-out Stephen Hill will provide a physical big body who is able to stretch the field. The slot is still a concern for the Jets, with Jeremy Kerley having the edge over speedster Clyde Gates.
One of the biggest issues on the team is the running back position. Veteran Chris Ivory is a reliable power back, but doesn't provide the game-breaking ability that you see from a HB in an elite offense. Coach Crew will be tasked with mixing in Ivory effectively with the passing game, but has publicly stated that he is looking to acquire a quicker running back to complement Ivory.
On to the defense, the backbone of the Jets. This is a unit that Coach Crew calls a top 5 unit in the league. With the acquisition of RE Chris Clemons, the D-line boasts veteran pass rusher Clemons, rookie lineman Sheldon Richardson, Antonio Garay, and elite LE Muhammed Wilkerson. The D-line will consistently put pressure on the QB and wreck havok on the outside run game. The linebackers are another strength on this squad, where veteran LBs Davis Harris and Antwan Barnes look to continue their production and anchor the defense. Younger MLB Demario Davis will get a chance to start at ROLB, with his speed and MCV ability, Coach Crew believes he can put together a 70 tackle, 4 INT season.
In the secondary, Antonio Cromartie and rookie Dee Milliner will be locking up opposing WRs all season. Coach Crew plays a man-based defense, and these two players fit perfectly into that system. Big things are expected from Milliner under Coach Crew, maybe a DROY?
The outlook for the 2013-2014 Jets is not a bright one, but the front office understand that this is a process. There are several young stars on the team, and opportunity is the name of the game in New York this year. Coach Crew believes his team can finish 7-9 this season, with his sights set on 2014-2015 to make a playoff push.

That's a pretty nasty D-line, although I wonder what lbs are lurking behind them? I know the Jets Cbs are phenoms, due to the game treating Cromo-and Millner like the shutdown cbs they are not....
* edit: Cromo has become a pretty shutdown-cb*

But I don't rely on my LB very much, I'm generally in nickel or dime. I'm excited to see how this defense does in passing situations, hope to improve on my sack totals from last season

Regular Season Outlook: The 2013 jets campaign was a great success as 12-4 mark was quiet the surprise to the fans of Gang Green. The Jets even won a home playoff game under the leadership of newly appointed starting QB Nick Foles. Coach Crew hopes to improve from last year, especially on the offensive side of the ball.. Let's take a look at the offensive and defensive outlooks for this season.
Offense: During the offseason, the Jets traded away rookie QB Geno Smith for DE Jason Pierre-Paul. A move which surprised many but was possible due to the strong depth at QB. Nick Foles will step in as the week 1 starting QB. Starting for the Jets will not be new for Foles as he played the last 8 games while Smith was out with an injury. Foles produced very well in those 8 starts. However, under Foles the running game suffered. This is an area that got some attention in the offseason as the Jets traded for dynamic yet oft-injured HB Darren Mcfadden. McFadden will be the bell cow of this team, and will look to best the 1700 yard season Joe McKnight produced in 2013. To the wideouts, 3rd year WR Stephen Hill will start opposite Santonio Holmes, pushing Greg Jennings into the slot. Hill and Holmes give the Jets a huge vertical threat on the outside while Jennings provides a consistent presence in the middle of the field. If Foles does not produce it will not be for lack of weapons on the offensive side of the ball. The o-line returns 3 pro-bowlers in LT Ferguson, LG Winters, and C Mangold. The left side of the line is clearly a strength and will be figured into the game plan.
Defense: "The mean green interception machine" unit returns 9 starters from last season, with the addition of JPP at RE and Quinton Coples at DT. The D-line features 4 elite pass rushers and will be looking to pin their ears back on 3rd downs and rack up the sacks totals. Onto the secondary, Coach Crews favorite part of the team. CBs Antonio Cromartie and Dee Milliner return to wreck havoc on opposing WRs. CB Kyle Wilson will man the slot position yet again as he looks to prove the haters wrong once again. LB Demario Davis will be the man in the middle of the Jets defense. The young, hard hitting LB looks to improve on his 6 INT campaign.
Overall Outlook: Positive for the most part, Coach Crew expects a 10-6 record this season. Rookies will not play a part on the team due to a lame draft class, but younger players such as Sheldon Richardson, Milliner, Hill, Winters, Foles and Davis look to improve on last years performances.

***Scouting Report*** After the fact: When I played him, I lost due to lack of deep coverage, not playing the deep ball. He could complete passes downfield with Foles. He told me that he attacked deep because he saw that I continually only had 1 high safety, learn from this. I dont recall him having alot of running yards on me, kept McKnight (now McFadden) at bay.
Defense was almost always 2 Man Under with 4 CB sets.

Rosenhaus is a good player and its tough to beat a good player three times in a row. No excuses, he hit me in the jaw and kept swinging. Good game.

Alot of man press coverage, he roams with a safety. Runs well, goes over the top if you stack the box. I had forgotten about that. He has speed all over the place and that makes him tough to defend. Good fun game though.

Deep ball for dayssssss and typically put on the money by Foles, often to Stephen Hill. As said above, having 2 safeties is essential 99% of the time as he will audible if seeing 8 in the box.

And I am not writing him off, as I told him he is one of the best players I have played in this league. I just now, if you have 6 losses in the AFC its probably not going to get you into the playoffs.

AFC is a dog fight, and I think he is 0-4 currently. You are correct. 0-4. Im ready to Stick a fork in him now. He done. Coincidentally, the shrewd Saints are 4-0 with former jets QB Nick Foles at the helm and the buccs are 3-0 since acquiring deep threat Santonio Holmes.

I noticed that. Foles is making it rain. That's because foles is a baller. I just lost my confidence starting the season vs. Stout and chapter and havnt regained it. Ill probably get it back soon. I'm using this opportunity as a mini rebuild and looking forward to next season
